Paying Attention to Décor in the Kitchen
Kitchens are taking their place as the premiere spot to gather in the home. It is not a secret that the kitchen is where everybody likes to gather, but for years this knowledge has had little influence on kitchen design for the normal home.
Now, with people preferring to stay in more than eat out, more attention is paid to the cooking area. Kitchens are no longer the realm of the woman in the house; cooking is increasingly a shared responsibility. Couples like to cook together, and that means more counter space and fewer frills in the décor.
Traditional kitchen design is giving way to sleek transitional and industrial touches with bold splashes of wood and color. Oven hoods and stove backsplash are boldly designed.
Walls between kitchens and living spaces are being knocked down to encourage mingling in the kitchen. The breakfast bar is back and bigger than ever as it gives onlookers and guests a place to hang out without getting in the way of the cook.
